Jefferson City, Fatima and St. Elizabeth aim for Final Four berths

Three area softball teams will be looking to punch their ticket to their Final Four in quarterfinal contests today.

In Class 4, the Jefferson City Lady Jays are bidding for their first trip to the Final Four since they won a state championship in 2009 in St. Joseph.

To get to this year's event, which will be held at the Killian Sports Complex in Springfield, the Lady Jays (21-7) will have to get a win in today's 2 p.m. game at Webb City (27-3).

In Class 2, the Fatima Lady Comets are looking for a return to glory, as they're seeking the school's first trip to the Final Four since 1996 when it claimed the championship at the Rainbow Softball Center in Columbia.

But they'll have to beat one of the hottest teams in the state in recent memory, as the Palmyra Lady Panthers have been to four of the last five Final Fours, winning three titles.

The Lady Comets (16-10-1) and Lady Panthers (26-2) will play at 1 p.m. in Palmyra.

The final area team, the St. Elizabeth Lady Hornets (20-5), will look to earn a spot in Springfield when they host the Naylor Lady Eagles (22-4) at 1 p.m. today.
