Western Mo. quarry fire considered suspicious

PECULIAR, Mo. (AP) - Fire investigators say a blaze that destroyed five buildings at a rock quarry in northwest Missouri appears to be suspicious.

The West Peculiar Fire Protection District says the fire early Thursday caused at least $500,000 in damage at the quarry, which is near Peculiar.

ATF spokeswoman Trista Frederick says the fire is suspicious because the five buildings that were damaged are some distance from each other.

Accelerant-detecting dogs were on the scene Thursday afternoon but investigators have not determined what started the blaze.

The quarry is owned by Hunt-Martin Materials L.L.C.
