Surplus auction set for Saturday

Anyone looking for a variety of used goods, including vehicles, electronics and even clothing, can visit the city's surplus property auction this weekend.

Jefferson City's annual Surplus Property Auction is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at 2320 Hyde Park Road.

Finance Director Steve Schlueter said the auction features items that will be replaced in next year's budget or have simply worn out and can no longer be used adequately by city departments.

Schlueter said the amount raised by the auction varies year to year based on what's up for auction and the number of people who turn out. He said the city hopes to raise $20,000 this year, all of which would be put back into the city's general fund.

Anyone bidding on auction items should have full payment ready the same day. Titles for vehicles will be available at 8 a.m. Monday in the purchasing division in City Hall, and vehicles must be removed within five days of the sale.

The winning bidder is solely responsible for transporting vehicles and equipment at their own expense and all items are sold "as is, where is," meaning bidders take equipment in the condition it is presented.

A full list of surplus property to be auctioned off, along with descriptions and conditions of the equipment is available at the city's website at www.jeffcitymo.org.
