Missouri church's 'joyful noise' angers neighbors

AIRPORT DRIVE, Mo. (AP) - Residents of a southwest Missouri village are complaining that the "joyful noise" coming from a Baptist church is violating a noise ordinance.

Officials of the north campus of Forest Park Baptist Church are set to appear in municipal court Oct. 24.

The complaint comes from two men who live near the church. The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/pdlyLr) reported that the men agree the church has made changes to try to muffle the sound. But the men say the sounds coming from the church are still too loud.

Church officials say money and time has been spent addressing sound issues. The church contends it's never been in violation of the noise ordinance. More than 450 people worship each week at the church, which opened in September 2009.
