Brunner brings Senate race to Jefferson City

Newly announced U.S. Senate candidate John Brunner briefly answered five reporters' 14 questions during his first campaign visit to Jefferson City.

Brunner, 59, a Frontenac businessman whose family owns and operates Vi-Jon Inc. - makers of Germ-X and other household products - on Monday launched his campaign to win the Republican Party's U.S. Senate nomination in next year's August primary.

His opponents, so far, are former state Treasurer and state Sen. Sarah Steelman, Rolla, and U.S. Rep. Todd Akin of St. Louis County.

"As I look at all the career politicians ... they don't have the real-world business experience," Brunner said.
