Thief nabs vehicle donated to Joplin school

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A thief has made off with a utility vehicle donated to the Joplin High School marching band through a tornado relief fund.

Police said the 2009 John Deere Gator TX and the trailer on which it was loaded were taken Tuesday afternoon. The school had only had the vehicle since Friday.

The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/nauXzg) reported that the utility vehicle was worth about $6,000. It had been a gift from the Joplin Band Tornado Relief Fund, which was set up by the Webb City Band Boosters.

Webb City High School's band director told the head band director at Joplin High School about the gift at a marching band festival last month.

The high school had planned to use the Gator for hauling percussion equipment at marching band competitions.
