Missouri officials certify special election results

The Missouri secretary of state has certified the results from elections held earlier this month for four state House seats.

State election officials on Tuesday certified results from the special elections held Nov. 8.

Republican Chrissy Sommer defeated Democrat Paul Woody by 38 votes for a St. Charles-area seat. However, the close margin means that Woody could request a recount under Missouri election law.

In St. Louis County, Tracy McCreery, who campaigned as an independent, defeated Democrat Jeff O'Connell and Republican Patrick Brennan. McCreery has worked for Democratic officeholders and filed to run as an independent after a Democratic committee instead selected O'Connell as its nominee.

And in Kansas City, Democrat Judy Morgan defeated Republican Jamie Barker Landes. Democrat Brandon Ellington ran unopposed for another Kansas City district.
