WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats got a 13-yard touchdown pass in overtime and defeated Midwestern State 38-31 in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
With the win, the Bearcats (11-2) advance to next Saturday's quarterfinal against MIAA foe Pittsburg State. The Gorillas defeated Washburn 31-22 on Saturday. The quarterfinal will be played in Pittsburg, Kan.
Pittsburg State won the regular season meeting 38-35 at Arrowhead Stadium.
Saturday's winning score came on a pass from Trevor Adams to Kyle Kilgore in the corner of the end zone. It was the third touchdown of the day for the duo.
Midwestern State (11-1), which led 28-10 in the second quarter, got one first down on the ensuing series of overtime, but an incomplete pass on fourth down ended it.
