Valle Catholic runs away with Mo. Class 1 crown

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Michael Wehner threw for four touchdowns and ran for two others to lead Valle Catholic of Ste. Genevieve to a 49-7 win over South Shelby in the Class 1 high school football championship game.

Valle, the defending champion, captured its state-record 11th title, surpassing Jefferson City's 10 crowns. The Warriors (14-1) improved to 11-2 in state title games.

South Shelby (10-5) had won its previous eight games.

Wehner scored on a pair of short runs in the first quarter and threw touchdown passes to Trevor Klump, Cory Kertz and Jared Bruns in the second period on the way to a 35-0 halftime lead.

Wehner hit on eight of 12 passes for 259 yards, and has thrown for 40 touchdowns this season.

The Warriors won all five playoff games by at least 30 points.
