Truck driver indicted in July death of Amish girl

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A truck driver has been indicted on a reduced charge in a crash that killed a 3-year-old Amish girl who was riding in a buggy.

The grand jury in Christian County indicted 53-year-old Mark Bohms on Friday on a charge of reckless homicide, according to the Kentucky New Era (http://bit.ly/vWhD19). Originally police had charged him with murder and driving under the influence. The latter charge was dismissed.

His attorney, Rick Boling, said he client did not commit any crime and the indictment surprised him.

Bohms was driving a tractor-trailer on July 8 when he came up on the buggy as he crested a hill in Hopkinsville. He says he attempted to change lanes, but couldn't avoid the crash that killed 3-year-old Barbara Smoker.
