School bus driver waives preliminary hearing

6-year-old boy killed by North Callaway bus

An Auxvasse man waived his preliminary hearing Friday in Callaway County Associate Circuit Court. Willie R. Leonberger was driving a school bus that ran over and killed a North Callaway student in January.

Leonberger, 78, is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge after 6-year-old Hunter Pitt, a North Callaway School District elementary school student, was killed.

Associate Circuit Judge Carol England allowed jurisdiction in the case to move from associate court to circuit court. She set Leonberger's next arraignment at 9 a.m. Monday in Division 1 of Callaway County Circuit Court.

Free on a $2,500 bond, Leonberger was represented by Columbia attorney Jerome S. Antel III.
