Fatima falls to Springfield Catholic

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — The clock finally struck midnight on Cinderella.

Fatima’s fairy tale run through the Class 1 state soccer playoffs ended abruptly Friday afternoon at the hands of Springfield Catholic, which dealt the Comets a 4-0 defeat in the semifinals at Blue Springs High School.

“This has been the No. 1 team all year,” Fatima coach Kirby Keth said of Springfield Catholic. “They’re stingy. They’ve given up very few goals. They’ve attacked. They’ve obviously scored a lot of goals against very strong, very successful programs.”
