If you look at the state rankings, it might be easy to count out the Helias boys soccer team at the Class 2 Final Four. But we all know what rankings are worth.

The Crusaders (19-6-2) enter the event that begins today in Blue Springs as the only unranked squad. The others? No. 1 Priory (25-0), No. 2 Trinity (20-6) and No. 3 Smithville (23-5).

But Helias, which couldn’t even crack the Top 10 in the final three polls released by the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association, does have one thing going for it.

“This is our fifth time (in the Final Four) and that’s the most of the four teams,” Helias coach Chuck Register said. “It’s the second for Priory, the fourth for Trinity and third for Smithville. So it seems like we’re deserving too, since we’ve been there that many times.”
