Lawsuit challenges Mo. minimum wage measures
Friday, November 18, 2011
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Kansas City restaurant owner has filed suit over two proposed ballot measures to raise Missouri's minimum wage.
Victor Allred owns a restaurant called Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen. His lawsuit in Cole County contends the cost estimates and ballot summaries for the proposals are insufficient and unfair.
The Missouri Restaurant Association endorsed Allred's challenge Thursday.
Two questions proposed for Missouri's 2012 ballot would raise the state's minimum wage — currently $7.25 an hour — by $1 starting in 2013, then allow it to increase with inflation. Employers also would be required to pay workers who earn tips at least 60 percent of the minimum wage instead of the current 50 percent.
Supporters of the measures predicted voters would support a minimum wage increase and called the lawsuit a delaying tactic.

The socialists are bent on destroying the state as well as the nation. The idea that the public can tell a business what they must pay is ludicrous. Not to mention that the increase in apy won't accomplish anything. It just means there is more inflation pressure. Then there will be the loss of jobs because it is not cost effective to pay people the minimum wage for some jobs that exist now.

The whole problem that small business has with the minimum wage law is that the help will make more than the owners. A poorly run business will go down the tube just a tad faster than before.
