Fire destroys country club in Mo. Bootheel

KENNETT, Mo. (AP) - A popular country club in southeast Missouri's Bootheel has been destroyed by fire.

The Daily Dunklin Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/rVx5f5) the blaze Monday night left the Kennett Country Club in ruins. No injuries were reported, but fire officials estimate the loss at more than $1 million.

Firefighters from several neighboring communities helped fight the blaze. The state fire marshal's office was called in to help determine the cause.

The building contained the clubhouse and restaurant. A notice on the club's website Wednesday says the board has already met and is making plans to rebuild.
