Vietnam veteran event slated for Dec. 10

Join local veterans and veterans groups for the "It's Never too Late to Welcome Them Home" event at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 in Jefferson City at First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe St.

Keynote speaker Capt. Charlie Plumb (Ret.), a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War and the author of "Know Who Packed Your Parachute," will be signing books and hosting a reception after he speaks.

Joining Plumb are other Vietnam veterans including: Jefferson City veteran and Purple Heart recipient Don Hentges; Kansas City area veteran Art Fillmore, who is the former chairman of the Vietnam Memorial and is in the Army Hall of Fame; St. Charles veteran George Newel l, who among other things is the former Commander of the State VFW and former state representative; and veteran Jackie Johnson.

Blue Star banners will be presented. Community members are asked to bring stories and pictures from Vietnam veterans that can be left for compilation by the National Guard historian.
