Habitat finishes building 10 homes in Joplin
Monday, November 14, 2011
JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Ten new homes built by Habitat for Humanity for victims of the Joplin tornado are finished and ready for their new owners.
The project, which started Oct. 29, wrapped up over the weekend with landscaping. The homes will be given to their owners on Saturday.
The project was a joint effort by the Tulsa, Okla., and Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity chapters, the city of Joplin, several businesses and organizations and thousands of volunteers.
The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/sWaEIE) that the Ten for Joplin project surpassed its $800,000 goal by more than $6,000.
Scott Clayton, executive director of Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity, said the project succeeded because of help from across the country. He says the organization plans to continue to build homes in the Joplin area.
