Hu says US, China cooperation key to economy

HONOLULU (AP) - Chinese President Hu Jintao (hoo jin-tow) says growing economic instability and uncertainty around the globe mean it's more important for China and the United States to increase their cooperation.

Jintao and President Barack Obama spoke at the start of a meeting during an Asia-Pacific economic summit in Hawaii.

The Chinese president says the Asia Pacific region is the most dynamic region of the world and should become a region of active cooperation between the U.S. and China.

Obama says cooperation between the two countries is vital to their prosperity and the prosperity of nations around the globe.

Hu did not address U.S. concerns over intellectual property and China's undervalued currency that keeps Chinese exports cheaper and U.S. exports to China more expensive.
