Joplin residents eligible for appliance rebates

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - Joplin residents affected by the May tornado that destroyed much of the city can get rebates for purchasing energy-efficient washing machines and refrigerators.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says the $250 rebates apply to washing machines and refrigerators with Energy Star labels that are purchased from Saturday through Feb. 17 or until the rebates run out.

The offer is good on one appliance per category per address, up to a total of $500. Purchases must be made at designated retailers.

Those claiming the rebates must be adult property owners who present proof of disaster assistance eligibility from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
