Crocker man facing more charges in fatal car accident

A Crocker man is facing additional criminal charges in connection with a fatal automobile accident in September that has now claimed the life of a Jefferson City woman.

John D. Mazurek, 24, was bound over for trial Tuesday after a preliminary hearing before Judge Kerry Rowden in Maries County Court, said Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman.

Mazurek is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 57-year-old Wilberta Randolph, Meta, and he has been charged with felony assault.

Mazurek may also be facing another Involuntary manslaughter charge because the other passenger, Helen Wieberg of Jefferson City, has died as a result of her injuries during the accident.

Mazurek remains in the Maries County Jail on $50,000 bond.

At 12:12 p.m. Sept. 1, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Missouri 133 in Meta. Randolph was pronounced dead at the scene, and her 85-year-old mother, Wieberg, was seriously injured.

After further investigation, Mazurek, the driver of the other car, was arrested.
