PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Claude Giroux and Jaromir Jagr scored during a five-goal first period, helping the Philadelphia Flyers rout the Columbus Blue Jackets 9-2 on Saturday night.
Sean Couturier scored twice for the Flyers and five other players had goals. James van Riemsdyk, Max Talbot and Jakub Voracek also scored in the first, giving Philadelphia three fewer goals (five) than total shots for Columbus (eight).
The Flyers piled on in the second, with Wayne Simmonds and Matt Carle scoring 20 seconds apart to make it 8-0. Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason was yanked late in the first period after allowing three goals on 12 shots. Allen York gave up two goals on five shots and was replaced by Mason in the second.
Flyers 5, Ducks 0
DETROIT (AP) - Nicklas Lidstrom had two goals and an assist, Jimmy Howard made 22 saves for his seventh NHL shutout, and the Red Wings snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the Ducks.
The Red Wings also broke out of a scoring slump after they netted only six goals during their slide.
Johan Franzen had a goal and two assists, and Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg also scored for the Detroit. Ian White had two assists.
Jonas Hiller stopped 39 shots for Anaheim before being replaced by Dan Ellis, who made six saves.
Bruins 7, Maple Leafs 0
TORONTO (AP) - Tyler Seguin scored his first-career hat trick and Tim Thomas made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Bruins beat the Maple Leafs.
Milan Lucic added two goals and an assist for Boston, while David Krejci had a goal and two assists. Shawn Thornton also scored and Patrice Bergeron added three assists for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who seem be finding their game after a sluggish start to the season.
With starting goalie James Reimer still out with concussion-like symptoms, Ben Scrivens was unable to repeat his stellar NHL debut Thursday when he stopped 38-of-39 shots in Toronto's 4-1 win at Columbus. The Leafs rookie allowed five goals on 14 shots against the Bruins, who have won two in a row for the first time this season.
Islanders 5, Capitals 3
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - P.A. Parenteau's goal with 1:46 remaining broke a tie and led the Islanders to a win over the Capitals.
After the Islanders (4-5-2) scored only 18 goals in their first 10 games this season, they busted out against Washington. Frans Nielsen, Brian Rolston, Matt Martin and John Tavares also scored for New York, which snapped a six-game losing streak (0-4-2). Tavares made it 5-3 with an empty-net goal
Rick DiPietro made 24 saves for his first win of the season.
Joel Ward, Alex Ovechkin and Brooks Laich had goals for the Capitals, who got 30 saves from Tomas Vokoun.
Sabres 3, Senators 2, SO
OTTAWA (AP) - Derek Roy scored on Buffalo's sixth shootout attempt to give the Sabres a win over the Senators.
Roy snapped a shot past Craig Anderson when both teams had failed to score after each converted their first two attempts. Thomas Vanek and Brad Boyes also scored in the shootout for Buffalo, which went beyond regulation for the first time in 13 games.
Jhonas Enroth stopped Erik Karlsson, Nick Foligno, Kaspars Daugavins and Bobby Butler to set up Roy's winner. Enroth, who improved to 4-0, made 25 saves in his second start in two nights.
Derek Roy and Jordan Leopold scored 2:16 apart midway through the second for the Sabres.
Milan Michalek and Erik Condra scored for Ottawa, which has lost three in a row (0-2-1) after a six-game winning streak.
Rangers 5, Canadiens 3
NEW YORK (AP) - Erik Christensen scored one of New York's three first-period goals, and the Rangers overcame a 1-for-9 effort on the power play to hang on for a victory over the Canadiens.
Defensemen Dan Girardi and Michael Del Zotto also scored in the first to pace the Rangers, who swarmed Montreal in the opening period with a 16-3 shot advantage and earned their third straight win - all at home.
Brad Richards pushed the lead to 4-2 in the second period for the Rangers (6-3-3), who are 3-1-1 on a six-game homestand that ends Sunday against Winnipeg.
Max Pacioretty and Andrei Kostitsyn scored in the second, and Brian Gionta added a goal late in the third for Montreal, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Devils 3, Jets 2, OT
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Adam Henrique scored his second goal of the game 1:28 into overtime to give Martin Brodeur and the Devils a victory over the Jets.
Patrik Elias also scored for the Devils and Brodeur made 21 saves in his first win of the season. The NHL's career wins leader returned Wednesday night after missing six games with a bruised shoulder, but was much sharper in this one.
Mark Flood scored in the third period for Winnipeg, his first NHL goal, and assisted on Jim Slater's goal that tied the game with 3 minutes remaining in regulation.
Wild 2, Blues 1
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Josh Harding stopped 30 shots to win his fourth straight start, and Dany Heatley and Guillaume Latendresse each scored for Minnesota as the Wild beat the Blues.
The Wild won their fourth straight in a physical game that at one point had a combined 11 players in the penalty boxes at the same time.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored his first goal of the season with 2 minutes to play. The Blues pulled goalie Jaroslav Halak with 1:26 to go, but couldn't get another shot past Harding.
Halak stopped 24 shots but lost his fifth consecutive start. A night after ending a two-game skid in a 3-2 win at home against Vancouver, the Blues had a rough time getting the puck out of their zone and lost their third straight road game.
Coyotes 4, Oilers 2
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Daymond Langkow, Adrian Aucoin and Boyd Gordon scored for Phoenix, and the Coyotes held off Edmonton, snapping the Oilers' six-game winning streak.
Ray Whitney added an empty-net goal with 11 seconds left. Mike Smith had 24 saves and his fourth career assist for the Coyotes in their fourth victory in five games.
Rookie sensation Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the No. 1 overall draft pick this year, scored his sixth goal for Edmonton. Theo Peckham netted his first of the season for the Oilers, who had 26 saves from Devan Dubnyk had 26 saves.
The victory was the 100th for Dave Tippett in 177 games as Phoenix coach.
Predators 4, Sharks 3, OT
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - David Legwand scored his second goal of the game with 2:53 into overtime to lift the Predators over the Sharks.
Pekka Rinne made several key saves down the stretch for the Predators, who overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period.
Ryan Suter and Patric Hornqvist also scored for the Predators, who are 4-0-1 in their past five games.
Joe Pavelski, Martin Havlat and Logan Couture scored for the Sharks, who lost for the second time in three games following a five-game winning streak.
Penguins 3, Kings 2, SO
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Chris Kunitz scored the tying goal with 2:57 left in regulation and netted the deciding tally in the fourth round of a shootout to lead the Penguins to a victory over the Kings.
Steve Sullivan scored his first of the season, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves for the Penguins (9-3-3), who lead the NHL with 21 points.
Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist, Simon Gagne also scored, and Justin Williams had two assists for the Kings, who have lost four straight. Jonathan Quick had 31 saves.
