Crews begin hanging fiber for rural broadband

Construction of the Co-Mo Connect broadband service is on schedule, as crews begin to hang the fiber that will carry the communications network.

Crews from Georgia-based Atlantic Engineering Group began the fiber-hanging process, called lashing, on Tuesday in the northern pilot project area, extending from the cooperative's Tipton headquarters west toward Syracuse.

Two pilot project areas were selected by Co-Mo Electric to test whether it is feasible to build the service to the entire cooperative service territory.

The southern pilot project area is in the Laurie/Sunrise Beach area.
