Miami man among most wanted health care fugitives

MIAMI (AP) - Federal health officials have added the director of two Miami health clinics to their most wanted list for allegedly billing Medicare for $26 million in bogus claims.

Enrique Gonzalez was indicted in May 2008 on several charges. Gonzalez is charged with paying kickbacks to patients to con them into saying they received treatments.

Authorities said he worked with Carlos, Luis, and Jose Benitez.

The brothers owned a string of medical clinics that allegedly scammed Medicare out of $119 million by billing for costly HIV drugs that patients never received. Authorities say they bought hotels, helicopters and boats before fleeing to Cuba.

The Benitez brothers are the most wanted fugitives on the list compiled by the Department of Health and Human Services inspector general.
