Persepolis, the story of an Iranian girl whose parents send her to Vienna to escape the turmoil in her country, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Film instead of Best Foreign Film.

The city is hoping to expand its borders, looking at possible areas of annexation on the west end of the city.

At the Annexation Committee meeting Thursday, which is now a committee of the whole, meaning all council members are included on the committee, staff presented five possible areas of annexation, all on the west end of the city.

Nathan Nickolaus, interim city administrator and city attorney, said the staff looked at five options in the same general area off Highway 50. Of the five options, the staff recommendation is for an area of 158.2 acres, which includes 27 housing units and two hotels. Included in the area is the Hampton Inn, Comfort Suites, J.C. Mattress Factory, a quarry, a turtle farm and the Meadows by the Club subdivision.
