They’re still one member short, since Gov. Jay Nixon has not yet named his representative to the panel.

But the Joint Interim Committee on State Employee Wages last week formally began its process for collecting information and completing a report on state workers’ pay by the end of the year.

Lawmakers last spring passed a resolution creating the committee, including its instruction to “develop strategies for increasing the wages of Missouri’s state employees so Missouri will no longer rank 50th among states regarding state worker wages.”

State Rep. Mike Bernskoetter, R-Jefferson City, sponsored the resolution and, last week, was named the committee’s chairman.

“This hasn’t been done since 1983,” he said. “Not everybody thinks we’re going to end up as bad as some people think we are.”

With benefits, retirement, multiple holidays, computer games, slow workpace, use of cars, cell phones, and pay above average local level, still not enough! Other states should follow our example! A government living within it's means how absurd! Most would never make it in the private sector.Who is going to pay for these raises, The government has milked us dry. Any of you hear something about a depression! Tell your superiors to stop taking all the pay raises!

You're as misinformed as the person that thinks all welfare reciepients are doing drugs. My pay is SO wonderful, I'll be taking a second job just to survive.

Use of state cars for personal commuting is prohibited. Use of State cell phones for personal use is charged back to an employee. Average pay is less than what private sector pays. Computer games on State computers is improbable, employees don't have administrator privilages to install them, and most websites would be blocked on the internet.

All employers give full time employees everything you describe. Computer games? not allowed. Slow workpace, not as far as I hear. Above average local level? for what jobs? A state with average revenue paying bottom dollar for staff will suffer, and I mean the public. Every interaction I have with the state has become less effective, not due to incompetence but to poor recruitment, low pay, zero training, and no future.

Lip service. Wonder what Dashtaki is doing these days? Wonder if Mike realizes how much of his bug business is from state workers?
