Missouri revenues falling short of budget
Wednesday, November 2, 2011
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s revenues have fallen slightly short of what’s needed to meet the budget through the first third of the state fiscal year.
Figures released Wednesday by the state Office of Administration show general revenues rose 1.2 percent through October compared with the same point in the previous fiscal year.
State budget director Linda Luebbering says revenues need to grow at around 2 percent to meet the mark set by the budget.
Missouri’s 2012 fiscal year began July 1. So far, sales tax collections are up about 5.5 percent and individual income tax collections are up 2.5 percent compared with the first four months of last fiscal year. But corporate tax collections are down 16.8 percent, and the state also has seen declines in other revenue categories.

The number of corporations paying taxes in Missouri isn't much different than last year. The revenue of corporations paying taxes in Missouri is up a bit. The taxes paid on that revenue are down nearly 16%. What a recruitment for corpoations to come to Missouri. "Low labor costs, Low taxes, Lax regulations, c'mon down corporate America!"

Graceful, in case you only get FOX's view, the OWS people are mostly middle class. Thuggery in Oakland & Seatle notwithstanding, the OWS folk are mostly middle class and out of work, out of their homes, and most of all out of patience with being scamed by poorly regulated financial gamers using technology and that greates of human evils - greed - to bilk you and I out of our hard earned money. They're screwing their own offspring too since a diminished middle class will only hurt their future bottom line . . . but that's greed for you.

Grace that's so wrong it's funny. Your voice is rising, your facts are slipping, and your paranoia is peeking out again. Armed and bigoted teabaggers didn't ruin the teaparty so you shouldn't let the few true freaks in the OWS movement do so for the general angst the OWS expresses agains abuse of wealth and non-democratic influence that wealth is presently allowed to have in America.

Nah, keep the corporations out! They offer jobs and evil things like that. Down with corporations!!

I'm not expressing hate for corporations, in this or any other post. I'm saying they need to pay taxes at the same rate as the rest of us. Corporations are a major part of the economy and are legitimate members of our society, which I've stated many times. I want them to contribute according to their gain from the efforts of the rest of us. Criticism does not equal hate.

Wow turtle! I kind of had the idea you might be a socialist by the tone of your previous comments. But I was hesitant to say anything because I didn't want to look like I was name calling. This post, however, is extremely disturbing though.
Question...how do you propose decreasing the world population? And, I've often asked others that have spouted the same thing..."are you going to be the first one to start it?"

Your words are not tasty in my mouth. I never, in any post, have said corporations don't pay taxes. I maintain they often don't pay their fair share. And, as you rant endlessly, of course corporate taxes get passed on, just like yours. But, the order of events is what's important. Corporate taxes are used by the government to provide service, just like yours. If your, or a corporation's, taxes go up then you and they don't spend as much. Whether on employees, capital improvements, or investment in the future, it's all the same, It's a balance. The courts say corporations are people. As the bumper sticker says, I'll believe that when Texas executes one. I cannot keep you from mis-reading what I say, but I have to call you out for inventing what I say.

I must say, I'm with Grace on this one. When a corp. has it's taxes increased, they raise the price of their product to compensate for the increase. When WE go and buy that product, WE pay that increase in the cost, therefore, WE are paying the tax increase levied on the corp. This is soooo simple I am surprised you don't get it. It does appear however that you DO get it and are trying to change the subject to 'employee advancement' to deflect that fact.

Graceful sings a corporate tax dodger's song. "Corporate taxes aren't real, they just hurt everybody by being passed on." The adjustments we (you, I and Corp) make to cover our higher taxes are all the same, we spend less. A tax check from GE (pitiful things they've been) is real money. How GE adjusts is unique, but essentially the same as how you adjust, less spent or shifted spending. The whole POINT of taxes is to get money off the top into the government for proper use. What's proper is another entire discussion. And how Grace can call this a debate is interesting when all that differ from the correct opinion are traitors, destroyers, immoral, depraved and out to get . . . Graceful I'd guess. That is not debate, that is harangue, and it inevitably discredits the source..

Wow asb, you really don't get it do you. GE spends less or shifts spending?? Although I am absolutely positive that GE does all it can to reduce costs to increase the bottom line, when GE gets hit with a tax increase...that toaster you were going to pay $24.99 for, well, now you are going to pay $25.49, or maybe $25.99.
And what the heck is it with "getting money into the government for PROPER use"???? Are you implying that what a corporation, or, what I do with my money is improper??
And from a prior post of yours...does the government really seperate the taxes collected from corporations and private citizens?? Really asb?

The whole theory of corporate income taxes getting passed on to customers is corrupt and misleading. GE can't raise the price of that toaster because they have to sell it in the same market as toasters made by other companies and in other countries.

For those on the Right who've been saying "time for a revolution, time to take back America, to the streets, the founding fathers said it's OK, etc." be careful what you wish for. The Left usually wins. Americans generally support OWS, but that won't last if OWS is seen as street gangs . . . until the Right starts up with death squads . . . It is NOT a good time for violent revolt, it very seldom is. It is obviously a time for adjustments, of financial, political, environmental and social balance. The Left will win these arguments. They have to or we're through and will balkanize, which is what the far Right wants.

Wrong again. predictably.
I wish you understood your definitions and your economic history a little better. You just don't get to make them up to suit your particular argument of the moment. Communism is only a left-wing concept in the USA, and that's because of the linkage with socialism, and that was back in the 1930's. Stalin's treaty with Hitler killed any chances of the communists achieving legitimacy in the US
Stalin, Mao, and Castro were right-wing idealogues in their own countries who seized power in pursuit of their authoritarian and traditional goals. Stalin and Mao put millions to death by violence and/or starvation trying to prove crackpot economic and political theories, only to be replaced by the next generation of dictator in their countries. Castro ran Cuba based on those same discredited theories, and Cuba only survived with economic support from the USSR.
The worst part of it all is that Cuba's health care outcomes are better than those in the United States, with so much less money involved.
tonto 1 year, 7 months ago
It's a definition thing. Keeping an authoritarian regime in place by force is right wing.
Cuba's healthcare stats come from the World Health Organization website. It's part of the UN - might be a lefty organization to you but most people believe it.

tonto - do you have specifics on the healthcare comparison? As always - i would like to look at it.

Maybe if they fired some of the many people I see wandering around with apperently littel to do when I enter most any goverment building, they might have enough revenues ?
hudson 1 year, 7 months ago
I have been self employed most of my life ,and the time I spent in. goverment buildings had to do with goverment paper work. And it was not at lunch time, and there were way to many people wandering around with little to do.But I still usually had to wait for service! then many times I waited weeks for paper work to be returned .

The problem here is that we Americans are so busy blaming the "other guys" (Dems blame Repub. Repub. blame Dems). Blame them both! Both have raised our taxes and raided our freedoms. Maybe we should try being a UNITED population so that we stand a chance in hell of fixing this mess.
UNITED we stand, DIVIDED we fall!
Every comment that blames one or the other is epic failure that fails to address the real issue. Our freedoms are being written away every single day. Both sides do it. They only PRETEND to be different so that we are too busy fighting each other to fight the real problem. Quit with the name calling, your side, my side bull----. I used to fight with my sister like that, but I was 4. GROW UP PEOPLE

The original purpose of income tax was to fund the repayment of a $100 million debt that was incurred through war-related expenses. After the war, the tax was repealed, but income tax became permanent during the early 20th century. A lot of Americans are whining regarding taxes. However, compared to income taxes around the world, Americans don’t pay that much. By law, businesses and individuals must file an income tax return every year to determine whether they owe any taxes or are eligible for a tax refund. Income tax is a key source of funds that the government uses to fund its activities and serve the public. Americans sometimes need [installment loans][1] to pay for taxes.
