Two local women make Extreme Makeover contribution
Tuesday, November 1, 2011
Two Jefferson City residents returned last week from a whirlwind trip to Joplin, where rebuilding efforts continue five months after a tornado destroyed nearly 7,000 homes in the city.
Amy Reed and Erica Gaw were among at least 10,000 others who volunteered for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and its most ambitious undertaking — to build seven homes in seven days.
The big reveal is scheduled for the show’s 200th episode on Jan. 20.

There were many of us from JC working in Joplin on Extreme Makeover. I met several from here while working there myself the last few days of the makeover. Thanks to all here in JC that went out of their way to help. It is a long boring ride down and a lot of work while there. But it was totally worth it to see the faces of the families that got the homes. I would like to know where the picture came from in the paper as we all signed a waiver that no photos were to be taken especially insid the homes.

Just wanted to clarify a couple of things...each person that contributed in the Extreme Makeover, in Joplin, had the same opportunity to contact their local paper, just as I did. I did so on the advice of my family members and friends that thought it would be a "feel good" story, that people in my community and those surrounding, would enjoy reading. I also wanted to share it, b/c it was probably one of the most special things I've ever had the opportunity to be a part of. I'm certain that the reporter, the News Tribune and certainly myself, had no intentions to make anyone feel unappreciated or unnoticed. As for the pictures, I would like to note that I have no affiliation with Ms. Gaw or her photos. The two pictures that I submitted, where completely cropped and blurred out, to make the artwork in the background, unrecognizable.
Sincerely,
Amy Reed
