Pa. House renames western Pa. bridge for Musial

DONORA, Pa. (AP) - The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has approved a measure already passed in the state Senate to rename a southwestern Pennsylvania bridge after native son Stan "The Man" Musial, a Hall of Famer who played for baseball's St. Louis Cardinals.

The bridge that carries state Route 1077 over the Monongahela River between Monessen and Musial's hometown of Donora will be renamed once Gov. Tom Corbett approves the measure passed Monday by the state House.

The bridge is about 20 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

State Sen. Tim Solobay, a Washington County Democrat, sponsored the measure which the Senate approved in May.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Solobay says renaming the bridge will "serve as a permanent reminder that, despite humble beginnings, hard work can lead to great accomplishments." Musial collected 3,630 hits in 22 seasons with the Cardinals.
