Foundation gives $410K to UMKC School of Education

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A foundation focused on grounding teachers in economics is giving $410,000 to the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The commitment from the Cloud L. Cray Foundation will fund the Center for Economic Education in the university's School of Education over a two-year period. The center is part of a network of similar centers that promotes economic and financial education in schools.

It works with students training to become teachers as well as working teachers looking to freshen their skills. The center also offers community programs and web-based resources and programs.

The university says in a news release that economic education and financial literacy are invaluable tools in a time of economic distress with a tough job market and climbing student debt loads.
