JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - Crowds of people across Joplin held a moment of silence in remembrance of the tornado that devastated the southwest Missouri city a week ago.
Hundreds gathered at Cunningham Park on Sunday, in between wrecked cars and twisted poles, for the moment of silence at 5:41 p.m., to mark the first report of the tornado. Many in the crowd wore white T-shirts emblazoned, "Joplin's Heart Will Sing Again."
After the moment, the crowd listened to "Sing Again," a song composed by a Virginia musician for the city.
City Manager Mark Rohr also told the crowd that the Joplin will rebuild. He said: "You have my word on it."
