WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is traveling to Joplin, Mo., to view the aftermath of the deadly tornado there and visit with survivors and family members of the dead.
The president's trip to Joplin on Sunday comes a day after he returned to Washington from a four-country tour of Europe that took him from Ireland to England and France and finally to Poland. After six days of diplomacy on the world stage Obama must take on one of the presidency's most intimate and delicate tasks at home: as healer-in-chief to a devastated community.
In the tornado wreckage of Joplin in southwestern Missouri, more than 120 people have died and 100 more are missing. Obama is to visit with members of the community and speak at a memorial service.
