Memorial Day closings announced

Monday's Memorial Day holiday means most federal, state, county and city offices will be closed in the Jefferson City area, except for emergency services such as law enforcement and fire protection.

The state archives, Lincoln University offices and area schools also will be closed. Most financial institutions and many businesses will be closed, although some retail businesses will be open.

The Jefferson City Transit System, Jefftran, will not operate. The U.S. Postal Service won't provide regular home deliveries or mailbox collections. However, special deliveries and Express Mail will be delivered as required.

The Missouri River Regional Library in Jefferson City and Linn, and the Daniel Boone Regional Library, serving Boone and Callaway counties, will be closed today and Monday. The Heartland Library in Maries and Miller counties will be closed Monday.

Allied Waste will not collect trash, garbage and recycling on Monday. In Jefferson City, that means scheduled collections will run one day later than usual. Also, the city's yard-waste drop-off site, 2417 Southridge Drive, will be closed.

The News Tribune will not publish a newspaper issue on Monday and the business office will be closed. Publication of the print edition and office hours will resume on Tuesday.
