Vogel wins D-II decathlon; Aleine third in heptathlon

TURLOCK, Calif. — Brent Vogel of Central Missouri closed it out in style.

Vogel (Helias High School) won the 1,500-meter run Friday afternoon to clinch the men’s decathlon title at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Cal State Stanislaus.

Vogel finished with 7,462 points in the 10-event decathlon, nearly 300 more than runner-up Brad Gamble of Chadron State.

In Vogel’s other events Friday, he was second in the discus (128-9), third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.95) and javelin (177-1) and fourth in the pole vault (14-1 1/4).

Vogel, a junior, was third in the event in 2010.
