ST. ELIZABETH - It took a little extra time, but the St. Elizabeth Hornets are going back to the Class 1 Final Four.

The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning Friday and defeated previously undefeated Northeast: Cairo 8-4 to claim a berth in the baseball semifinals.

"We're all very excited," St. Elizabeth coach Nick Voss said. "It was a close game all the way."

With the win, St. Elizabeth (14-5) advances to take on La Plata (19-2) in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Meador Park in Springfield.
