Jays, Crusaders honored on district baseball team

The Jefferson City Jays and Helias Crusaders had a combined 14 players selected to the Class 4 District 10 baseball team.

The Jays had eight players picked to the squad by the eight district coaches.

Three were first-team selections - outfielders Mike Washington and Rob Vernon, along with pitcher Paul McMahon.

Named to the second team were infielders Conner Hager and Jordan Green, and pitchers Joey Love and Sean Waldrop. Danny Eveler was honorable mention at catcher.

Four Crusaders were named to the first team - infielder Zach Rockers, outfielder Jeremy Braun and pitchers Bret Gerstner and Deion Hughes.

Helias' other two selections were honorable mention - infielder Quintin Matheis and outfielder Zach Backes.

Cody Pentecost of Lebanon was the district player of the year, while Paul Dudley of Lebanon was coach of the year.
