JC City Administrator Out of a Job

Jefferson City Council makes leadership change

The Jefferson City Council voted unanimously to terminate the contract of City Administrator Steve Rasmussen. The motion, which was passed 9-0 on May 23 in a closed session following a City Council Work Session, is effective immediately. City Attorney Nathan Nickolaus has been appointed interim city administrator. Plans are under way to a establish a search committee to find a new city administrator.

“The City of Jefferson is on the verge of facing its largest economic boom in history,” said Mayor Eric Struemph. “The City Council is committed to leadership that will help the city work toward achieving greater economic prosperity.”

Rasmussen said he has enjoyed his service with the city. “It is my understanding that different leadership was desired for the new administration. This is not uncommon in this position,” he said. “I respect that desire and have no regrets.”

Time to hire a LOCAL city administrator. Better yet, get rid of the city administrator job and make the mayor and the council do theirs.

We already have part-time commissioners managing the county operations. Other cities operate with a mayor and council doing their jobs- why can't ours.

Name-calling noted.

Seriously? What's the plan for creating and then managing this "largest economic boom in history"? Please share the good news, Mr. Mayor!!

Curious as to what is going to drive this anticipated economic boom. Hope it happens.

What a difference a few months make. I am glad that we have new council members and a new mayor I feel we can trust and are cleaning house.

I want to commend Carrie Carrol for standing alone several months ago, during the alleged hit-and-run/DUI controversy, when she called for Mr. Rasmussen's termination in open session. The then-council voted not to go into private session, as Councilman Carrol had requested, and she was forced to voice her position in public. I was very proud of her bravery for that. I'm glad she represents me.

Maybe now we have a council and mayor that will react to the will of the people instead of substituting their wisdom for ours.
