Pernice trial rescheduled for 2012

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The trial for a Kansas City man accused of killing his wife has been delayed until next year.

Shon Pernice was scheduled to stand trial next month on a first-degree murder charge in the death of 35-year-old Renee Pernice, who disappeared in 2009.

The Kansas City Star reports that attorneys on both sides asked Circuit Judge Shane Alexander to delay the trial. Alexander set a new date of Feb. 27.

Defense attorney Eric Vernon said his office did not have enough time to interview witnesses and review more than 5,000 pages in reports.

Pernice remains jailed nearly 2 1/2 years after his wife disappeared. Her body has not been found, but authorities say evidence indicates she was murdered.

A jury is being brought in from St. Charles County for the trial.
