An entire season of work came down to the final seconds for the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons. Literally.

Blair Oaks needed a win in the 4x400-meter relay to tie for their first state title since 1999. But with the Lady Falcons clinging to a lead in the final stretch of the final event Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Lathrop High School charged from behind with less than 20 meters to go to take first place by less than half a second.

The Lady Falcons finished second with 38 points. Penney won its fifth straight Class 2 state title with 40 points. Fatima finished third.
