Jays, Lady Jays focused on getting out of sectional

Jefferson City's track and field teams have one main goal at today's Class 4 sectional meet at West Plains.

"Qualify as many as possible," Jefferson City coach Dan Ridgeway said. "That's the goal. You can't score points at the state meet if you don't qualify them through. The goal is top four, and if we can't get top four, set a (personal record) and have a good end to the season."

The top four finishers from today's meet advance to the Class 4 State Track and Field Championships at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

The Jays are competing in 12 events, while the Lady Jays are in 13.

"We have a chance to qualify several people through, but we're right in the middle range of three, four, five or six," Ridgeway said. "We could get as many as seven events on the girls side.

"Physically, we're in good shape. It's just a matter of going out and performing."
