Surtax dispute still at a stalemate

In the latest installment of the Cole County surtax ordeal, the Blair Oaks R-2 School District has offered to pay just more than half of what county officials have determined it owes.

In a counter-offer to the county’s most recent proposal to settle the surtax issue, the Blair Oaks School Board proposed several changes, including a stipulation that the amount that they repay be cut from approximately $656,000 to almost $330,000.

Quit whining, Blair Oaks and pay the money. It is not as if you are a poor school district. You spent it, now pay up.

Yes, but they only spent it after repeatedly telling the county that it wasn't theirs. The county reassured them that it was.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't pay it back, but if I thought my paycheck was too much and asked my boss about it every payday for four years, and I was consistantly told "no, that's the right amount", I'd be pretty upset of they came back and said "You owe me $4,000 because I paid you too much."
