In the back corner of a deep, dark drawer, I keep a pile of unfilled hunting licenses. It has become a much larger stack than I would like, but in its heft I find fond memories of heartfelt attempts, long ago expeditions and reminders of what I should have, or could have, done better.

Sitting right on top of the stack are my 2011 Missouri spring turkey tags.

Overall, the Missouri spring turkey harvest was down 8.6 percent.
