Fulton receives bids for landfill closure

FULTON - The city of Fulton opened bids for closure of its landfill Thursday, and the bids yielded a pleasant surprise for city officials.

"I am very pleased with the bids we received; every one is less than we had projected," said Bill Johnson, director of administration.

He noted the five project bids ranged from $400,000 to $894,000 - much lower than the expected $1 million cost.

"We were very concerned with the price of diesel, so we inflated the number, apparently more than we needed to," he said.
