KC man sentenced to life for teen's shooting death

PLATTE CITY, Mo. (AP) - A 20-year-old Kansas City man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a teenager following a dispute over a girl.

Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd says Justin Dougan was sentenced Thursday to two concurrent life sentences for the shooting death of 17-year-old Spencer Crosthwait last July 29.

Dougan pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

Zahnd says Dougan opened fire from a vehicle in which he was riding at a car driven by Crosthwait. Dougan intended to kill a passenger but hit Crosthwait instead.
