Wednesday's American League Capsules

CLEVELAND (AP) - David Price shut down baseball's hottest team without much trouble, carrying a shutout into the eighth and leading the Tampa Bay Rays to an 8-2 win over Cleveland on Wednesday night, stopping the Indians' home winning streak at 14.

Price (5-3) was perfect for four innings, dominant for seven and became the first pitcher to record a win at Cleveland in more than a month. The left-hander allowed two runs and five hits - four doubles - in eight innings, struck out seven and did not yield a walk.

Ben Zobrist and Matt Joyce homered, Sam Fuld had three hits and B.J. Upton had two RBIs as the Rays roughed up starter Carlos Carrasco (1-2) and won for just the third time in 22 games at Cleveland since 2005.

At 12-5, Tampa Bay has the majors' best road record.

Royals 4, Yankees 3, 11 innings

NEW YORK (AP) - Eric Hosmer hit his first career homer then delivered the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to lift Kansas City over the Yankees.

Hosmer's homer was a soaring shot into the second deck in right field in the fourth inning, hours before the outcome was decided. Wilson Betemit had a tying RBI single in the eighth for Kansas City and Jeff Francoeur drove in a run during the 10th inning.

Joakim Soria (3-0) allowed Curtis Granderson's matching RBI single in the bottom half of the 10th, picking up the win after blowing his second save in eight tries this season.

Buddy Carlyle (0-1) got the loss.

White Sox 6, Angels 4, 10 innings

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Alexei Ramirez scored the tie-breaking run from third base when Los Angeles reliever Kevin Jepsen threw a wild pitch during an intentional walk in the 10th inning, capping Chicago's rally from a late three-run deficit.

Adam Dunn homered among his career-high four hits and scored on Brent Lillibridge's 10th-inning sacrifice fly after Jepsen (0-2) sailed a throw over the head of catcher Hank Conger, who had stood up while the Angels intentionally walked Paul Konerko.

Chicago's Jake Peavy gave up seven hits and four runs over six innings in his return from a 10-month absence for major shoulder surgery.

Omar Vizquel had an RBI double in the eighth and a tying sacrifice fly in the ninth for the White Sox, who stranded a season-high 15. A.J. Pierzynski had four hits and drove in a run during Chicago's ninth-inning rally against closer Jordan Walden.

Orioles 4, Mariners 2

BALTIMORE (AP) - Chris Tillman pitched six innings of three-hit ball, Adam Jones went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and the Baltimore Orioles beat Felix Hernandez.

Tillman and Jones were both traded from the Mariners to Baltimore in 2008 as part of a five-player deal that sent pitcher Erik Bedard to Seattle.

Drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft by Seattle, Tillman (2-3) gave up one run in his first start against the Mariners. The right-hander struck out five and walked three.

Hernandez (4-3) allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings. It was only the second time in eight starts this season that he yielded more than two earned runs.

Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 3

TORONTO (AP) - John McDonald homered, Rajai Davis had four hits and the Blue Jays Boston to sweep a two-game series.

The Blue Jays pounded struggling Boston right-hander John Lackey (2-5), who lost his third straight start and matched a season-high by allowing nine runs. He gave up nine hits, walked a season-high five and struck out one.

Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz hit solo homers, but it wasn't enough for Boston.

Jesse Litsch (4-2) won his second straight, allowing three runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings. He walked one and struck out four.

Tigers 9, Twins 7

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Brandon Inge hit an RBI triple off the center field wall in the ninth inning to lift Detroit to its fifth win in a row.
