Meth maker burned by meth lab in closed hospital

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say a man who was cooking methamphetamine inside a closed hospital suffered third-degree burns when the lab exploded.

The injured man was taken to a different hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after police received a call around 9 a.m. Saturday.

WDAF-TV reports officers found the man running from the old Trinity Lutheran Hospital near Liberty Memorial. Police say he told emergency responders he and another man had been cooking meth inside the building.

Hazmat crews and police spent much of the day searching the hospital for the second man and the meth lab. As of late Saturday afternoon they had found neither.

The hospital that stretches nearly a city block closed in 2001 and is being converted into condominiums.
