Jefferson City public schools are looking at three options for its secondary schools.
All of the options include the idea of “academies” within a larger high school and, in one option, satellite locations.
The third option would build a second high school. All three options include renovating the existing high school.
After two public forums and two “open houses” to explain the options, the district is polling the public through an official survey and an informal ....

Sounds great...'til we get the tax bill. It's easy to see that these options will cost at least half again more than what we're paying in taxes now. And probably way beyond that.
Upgrades and changes are needed in the schools...but wholesale changes & plans like these are 'pie in the sky' expensive.
I would much rather see my money spent on student and parental accountability as well as practical applications and training for today's society.
I would also like to see it spent more wisely. Paying for one 'facilitator' to teach one 'disadvantaged' child is terribly expensive and creates quite a disadvantage for the rest of our children. Money spent per child on the disadvantaged kids is far higher than the mainstream kids these days and it's beginning to hurt. America is falling behind because of these programs. Other countries simply use their money more thriftly.
I don’t mean to sound cold-hearted…I am not. These are great programs for the disadvantaged kids. But the education system has shown time & again they can’t make this work by throwing money at it. We’re starting to slight the mainstream kids…our kids.
Spread the money around a bit more evenly PER CHILD and I think we can watch wonders grow.

Just build a High School and forget the precious football team. You have to admit something is not quite right with public/government schools when the Lutheran's now have a High School as well as Helias. I agree throwing money does not work.
It might be if we let teachers teach, with out National Government and teaching to tests, forgot about the failed tenure system that rewards bad teachers and instituted merit and individual accomplishments in teaching the child we would better spend the publics money.
A dress code maybe even a uniform policy would give students a sense of decorum and a slice of real world dress in the business/professional or otherwise work force. A little PE would not hurt all the overweight kids either. I had PE every year all year in my HS days I hated it but that is the way it should be. Hey and I played dodge ball to I usually got beat up by the bigger older guys but I liked it. It was a learning experience. Stop coddling kids and telling them everyone is a winner when they are not! You win or Lose real simple.
