78-year-old man drowns in Mo. boating accident

HERMITAGE, Mo. (AP) - A 78-year-old Wheatland man has died after his boat capsized on Pomme de Terre River in southwest Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Gene Carmichael and two other people were thrown into the water when the boat went over late Friday afternoon.

The Patrol says Carmichael wasn't wearing a life jacket and was pronounced dead by Hickory County Coroner Connie Boller after his body was pulled from the river.

Another passenger in the boat, 65-year-old Floyd Brim of Wheatland, was taken to a Bolivar hospital where he was reported in fair condition.

Officials are waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of Carmichael's death.
