Your Opinion: Character unites all religions
Saturday, May 7, 2011
Dear Editor:
I am thankful to Jefferson City Public Schools for their support of “Character Plus in an Interfaith World.” It is important to reach out to young people toward the goal of interhuman understanding and cooperation.
Gara Loskill, director of character education, presented an in-depth study of Character Plus, with particular emphasis on its Missouri origins. Representatives of several religious faiths fielded questions about various Character Plus traits.
Religious communities have a tendency to become islands unto themselves. Character Plus, and programs such as those sponsored by the Capital Area Interfaith Alliance, work to bring us together rather than to tear us apart. We have more in common with our fellow human beings than we often care to admit.
