Missouri Senate prepared for possible controversy

The Missouri Senate is known for often taking its time to debate major pieces of legislation.

And it's seen its share of slow-downs this year, especially over the proposal to use federal stimulus money to extend unemployment benefits for another 20 weeks, to Missourians who've been unable to find another job after 79 weeks' unemployment.

This week could mean more of the same as Senate Floor Leader Tom Dempsey plans this morning to debate Sen. Brian Munzlinger's bill related to project labor agreements (PLAs). He also said Sen. Rob Mayer's bill on late-term abortions may come up.

Munzlinger, R-Lewistown, wants to prohibit any construction project using public funds from including contracts requiring union labor for the work.
