Blue Tigers shut out

The Lincoln Blue Tigers and Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks were able to get in one game Sunday, but snowy weather kept them from finishing another.

The planned doubleheader, which had already been moved from Omaha to Topeka, Kan., to try to avoid this weekend’s poor weather, even started early Sunday.

The Mavericks made quick work of Lincoln in the opener, taking a 4-0 win as two pitchers limited the Blue Tigers to just five hits. Cedric Belt had two of them, while Adam Rush, Gus Durst and James Johndrow had one each.

Joe Jungmeyer started and took the loss for the Blue Tigers, as he gave up three earned runs off seven hits in 5 1 /3 innings of work.

Ian Fuemmeler finished off the final 2 /3 of an inning, giving up one unearned run on one hit.

The loss dropped Lincoln to 6-8 overall and 5-8 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, while UNO moved to 13-4 and 10-3 in the MIAA.

In the second game, the Mavericks tagged Lincoln starter Taylor Klugman for two runs in the bottom of the second.

But the Blue Tigers came right back in the top of the third, scoring two runs and putting a runner at second with two outs before the game was suspended.

Lincoln got its first run when Johndrow reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and third and scored on an error.

Chris Pfau then walked and scored on a double to center field by Adam Rush.

The game will resume at 9:30 a.m. today, and will be followed by another doubleheader between the teams that was originally scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.

LU postpones games

Weather was the only winner when it came to the softball doubleheader featuring Lincoln University and Pittsburg State University.

The Blue Tigers and Gorillas were originally set to play Saturday, before shifting the twinbill again to Sunday and eventually today.

But with snow on the field Sunday and more wet weather in the forecast, Lincoln decided to reschedule the games for 1 p.m. on Monday, April 11, at Lincoln Field.

The Blue Tigers’ next scheduled action is a doubleheader against Lindenwood set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Field.
